In his gospel, the Apostle John wrote to present the eternally existent Word who became flesh and dwelt amongst us as the glory of God, and who is full of grace and truth. His obedient submission to do the Father’s will as His incarnate, only begotten Son was in order to bring salvation to God’s children. John presents this salvation as obtainable only through repentance and faith in the work of the Savior on the cross.
In his epistles John writes in the midst of the wicked and deceitful work of false teachers and their followers who would seek to lead people astray with worldly ideas and philosophies that would turn the gospel and Jesus into idolatrous lie. His main purpose is to clarify to true believers what it means to be a genuine Christ follower so that God’s children “may know” that they are His. Taught by Scott Holwick and Tom Pagliughi.
